Key Observations in Non-telco Case Studies
In the non-telco sector, data migration commonly involves moving data from legacy customer relationship management (CRM) systems such as Oracle, Siebel, MS CRM Dynamics, or SAP ERP to Salesforce. Typically, these accounts adopt technical ETL-oriented data migration to transfer historical data and establish foreign key relationships via lookups and related record ID key mappings. Most data migration projects take less than a quarter of a year, with some taking only a few weeks. Few sectors like financial and manufacturing adopt a Cap-and-Grow approach where new capabilities and latest offerings are delivered only in the target stack and investment in legacy is curtailed. This approach minimizes the migration effort significantly. Non-telco case studies did not demonstrate any business process-oriented data migration.
