Businesses that put their employees' well-being first will prosper
The pandemic set multiple changes in motion for workplaces across the globe. But in 2023, it’s clear that these trends are rapidly evolving – and companies need to focus on the human factor amidst this evolution.
We're coming from an era where we tried to fit as many desks as possible to maximize the efficiency of a space. The key metric used to be employees per square meter. I strongly believe we're moving towards a world where we value experience per square meter in the workplace.
Technology is rewriting the nature of work, workers and workplaces – but at the cost of employer-employee relationships. Job market trends and employee attrition rates showcase how companies are struggling to meet their employees' needs and expectations. That's why, today's organizations need to re-examine employee relationships with a fresh, empathetic perspective and create digital experiences that connect and engage employees on an emotional level.
Over the course of our research, we realized that trust is at the center of employee engagement and retention. We found that employees respond predictably and positively when companies implement initiatives that serve their needs. However, traditional approaches to develop trust are no longer enough in the age of distributed, always-on cloud and AI.
It’s time to give a radical makeover to the employee value proposition – and to deploy new tools, in a new way, to manage and succeed in this environment.
Technology can be used to recouple and reconnect the tether between employee purpose, performance, and productivity. And this will have to work across a hybrid of physical, virtual, and remote locations.
Automation is about removing standardized and monotonous tasks – the hallmark of the 20th century workplace. But by doing this it can usher in a new era of diversity in the workplace, by making space not only for more creative thinking, but for a new demography in the workplace.
The future of work is all about flexibility. And #NextAtWork is prioritizing human-centricity. To adapt:
Re-examine employer-employee relationships with a fresh, empathetic perspective
Create experiences that will help you connect and engage with employees
Use technology as the tool to fortify trust between the company and employees
