Methodology
The Infosys Bank Tech Index is a quarterly, survey-based research report that indexes technology trends across the banking industry.
The study gathers quantitative data from 204 of the largest banks by total assets in Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America. This group of banks represent 64% of total banking assets for banks with over $10 billion in assets.
Our executive panellists are key decision makers for their respective bank’s technology investments and talent strategies. Panel respondents will remain confidential to maintain data privacy and ethical considerations.
The research delves into the following areas:
Performance: The asset turnover ratio of banks across regions and size to compare their operational performance.
Technology strategic priorities: Current priorities of banks related to growth, operational efficiency and transformation.
Technology spending: Investment levels across CapEx and OpEx, IT operations, New Projects and Regulatory.
Technology talent: The technology skills that banks are looking to hire.
Technology project success: The proportion of projects that are on-track by performance, region and size.
As data is gathered in subsequent quarters this research will provide a dynamic view of the trends, track evolving patterns, and help decision-makers at banks make informed decisions about technology and talent.
We asked our panel to provide the spending estimates for their last reported quarter, which we refer to as “Most recent reported quarter” throughout the report. This generally covers April to June 2023, and June to September 2023. Forecasts for spending, which we refer to “Next quarter”, cover the period of October to December 2023.
Throughout this report we refer to banks ‘performance’ which we calculate through the asset turnover ratio (revenue divided by total assets) to provide a consistent measure of operational performance across the sample.
